Photobioreactor kit

Cultivation systems for microalgae, cyanobacteria and other photosynthetic microorganisms: the kit brings automated control of light intensity, photoperiod, wavelength, temperature, pH, gas composition, aeration and mixing to the Biobook. Available in airlift or stirred-tank configuration, from 0.5 to 12 L total volume.

/// Highlights

Light becomes a process parameter

Programmable light profiles

Programmable light profiles

Bioflex™ setpoint editor: for every LED channel you set the intensity over time, with static or dynamic profiles, ramp slope and repeated cycles.

Predictable light, repeatable results

Predictable light, repeatable results

Experimental characterization of the red, green and blue channels: PPFD grows linearly with the set intensity, so every setpoint delivers a predictable light dose. As a first approximation, total PPFD = 3.40 × R% + 3.08 × G% + 4.18 × B% (µmol·m⁻²·s⁻¹).

Photobioreactor specifications

The key parts of the system and their specifications. Full details are in the datasheet.

Photobioreactor specifications
  1. Stirred-tank or airlift

    Mechanical mixing with an impeller for robust, high-density cultures, or pneumatic mixing, with very low shear, for delicate microalgae and cyanobacteria.

  2. pH and gas under control

    Automatic pH control through acid/base addition or CO₂; gas lines for air, CO₂, O₂ and N₂.

  3. Borosilicate glass vessel

    From 0.5 to 12 L total volume; temperature from 2 to 70 °C with automatic closed-loop control.

  4. Programmable multichannel LEDs

    Independently controlled RGB and white channels, 13 available wavelengths and white from 3000 to 5700 K; the integrated PAR sensor measures light from 0 to 2500 µmol/m²·s.

/// Types

Two vessel types

The kit fits the classic glass vessel or the airlift vessel: what changes is how the culture is mixed.
