Microalgae cultivation
Photobioreactors for microalgae cultivation geared towards renewable energy: lipid production for biofuels, CO₂ capture and biomass for high-value applications.
The application
Microalgae are among the most promising biological platforms for renewable energy: they fix CO₂ through photosynthesis and accumulate lipids convertible into biodiesel and biofuels, as well as valuable pigments and proteins.
Efficient cultivation requires control of light, CO₂ supply and gentle mixing to keep cells in suspension without damaging them. Our systems are designed to maximise photosynthetic productivity at scale.
Technology involved
Photobioreactors with controlled illumination, regulated CO₂ supply and low-shear mixing for optimal phototrophic growth.
- Controlled illumination. Optimised optical paths and light intensity to maximise photosynthetic yield.
- CO₂ supply. Regulated CO₂ dosing as carbon source, with net greenhouse-gas capture.
- Gentle mixing. Uniform cell suspension while limiting shear stress and photoinhibition.
- Growth monitoring. Control of pH, temperature and optical density for stable productivity over time.
