The application
Bacterial fermentation underpins the production of recombinant proteins, industrial enzymes, plasmids and high-value molecules. High-cell-density cultures generate very high oxygen demand and heat load in a short time.
Our bioreactors meet this challenge with high-mass-transfer geometries, cooling systems sized for metabolic peaks and integrated SIP/CIP cycles for reliable sterility between batches.
Technology involved
High-power-input stirred-tank vessels with Rushton impellers and ring spargers for high oxygen transfer, driven by Bioflex™ control.
- High oxygen transfer. kLa > 200 h⁻¹ with multiple Rushton impellers and optimised sparging for high-density cultures.
- Fast thermal control. Jackets and coils sized to dissipate metabolic heat during growth peaks.
- Integrated SIP / CIP. Sterilise-in-place and automated cleaning for reliable, repeatable batch cycles.
- Control cascades. DO cascaded onto agitation, gas flow and O₂ enrichment, with automated Bioflex™ recipes.
